In October 2022, the former Assistant County Attorney filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the Walton County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) and multiple commissioners who were named individually.
Commissioner Trey Nick & the Nekkid Woman
In her filing which is discussed in more detail here, Heather Maxwell alleged that a commissioner called her “late at night saying he had a bad problem.” It was later learned based on offensive text messages (see below) that were released to the public that she was specifically referencing Commissioner Trey Nick who is also the owner of Nick’s Seafood restaurant in Freeport.
The Commissioner then proceeded to drop off a completely nude, married (to another), and intoxicated female former Walton County employee at Maxwell’s residence for her to take care of.
It was subsequently learned that the nude woman previously worked as a political aide for Commissioner Tony Anderson.
Commissioner Trey “N-Word” Nick
During the 2024 election cycle, the aforementioned text messages sent by Nick to Maxwell and others in a group text chat were released to the public. Included in this text group was Commissioner Anderson and his current political aide, Laura Ekstrom. Ekstrom has been engaged in a long-time affair with Stan Sunday, the now former county administrator who was fire at the June 10, 2025 BCC Meeting.
Not only did Nick denigrate African-Americans by labeling them “monkeys,” he also referred to them with the “N-word” epithet.
