When it comes to Walton County Commissioner Danny Glidewell and his re-election campaign, it is clear that he is in serious trouble.
The most powerful indicator of this is his pathetic performance at the recent Walton County Fair’s annual meeting in which the members voted for new Board members. In lieu of the actual Republican primary vote that will occur in August, we have a proxy vote in the form of the Fair Board elections that occurred last month.
Glidewell trumpets the fact that he has been on the Fair Board since 2002 on his Walton County BCC profile page. He has served as the president and the vice-president. His son is the current president of the board. The Glidewell name is synonymous with the Walton County Fair.
And yet — after a quarter century of “championing” the organization and serving 8 years in the politically significant role of county commissioner — Glidewell barely eeked out enough votes to secure the fourth and final seat that was up in this year’s election.
Don’t believe me — here is a picture of the vote tally.

I was told that the meeting start time was delayed while the Glidewell camp frantically called supporters for last minute reinforcements. And apparently, there was an attempt to count the votes absent any independent third party observers. However, that was prevented.
Now, you should be asking yourself — how does an individual who has served the organization for 25 years fail to be an automatic sure-fire lock for re-election? Especially when they hold a powerful political position that can positively or negatively impact the organization greatly!
It is very clear to anyone paying attention that Glidewell’s 8-year record of taxing and spending has alienated voters throughout the county. Remember, that Glidewell ran unopposed in 2022 due to some local election chicanery that is beyond the scope of this conversation.
He has never been held accountable for his hypocrisy on the 2022 sale tax flip flop.
In December 2025 at the Freeport Republican Club meeting, Glidewell expressed support for a gas tax increase.
His violation of county credit card policies as presented in the 2022 Clerk of the Court Audit came out after the election.
The news about him stealing money from the employee tuition reimbursement program and the taxpayers paying for his masters degree was never shared with the masses until recently.
And the masses are still unaware of the fact that Glidewell gave away customary use rights when the county entered into a binding legal agreement with more than 1,000 property owners — even though he tries to position himself as a staunch defender of customary use.
The people who know Glidewell best — the ones who have worked hand-in-hand for decades are no longer buying what he is selling.
As the general public learns more it should be clear to everyone that the Glidewell campaign is in trouble.
