Think you are paying too much at the pump for gas?
Commissioner Danny Glidewell wants you to pay more. At a meeting of the Freeport Republican Club on December 16, 2025, he floated the idea of increasing the gas tax.
Yes! This really happened. Numerous people told me about this and his opponent, Warren Whitaker, who was in attendance confirmed it in a public post on Facebook.
As I highlighted in a previous post, Glidewell was a past president of the Walton County Taxpayers Association. But it was all an act to get elected in an extremely conservative county that voted nearly 80% for Trump.
The reality is that a lot of “Republicans” are RINOs, or Republicans in name only. Glidewell is a tax and spend liberal who has repeatedly expressed support for various tax increases and he has stood by and allowed the county government to balloon into a behemoth.
The county budget is a whopping $328,000,000. When he was a candidate in 2017 the budget was “only” $150,000,000.
The average Walton County taxpayer wants to know when enough is enough and when will a candidate actually follow through on the promises they make during their campaigns.
